Farm-in Opportunities

GYP invites interested companies to take part in exploring hydrocarbon potential of its own licenses, mainly located in profilic SE Turkey Basin, northern part of the Arabian Plate.

Cizre Licenses 5 licenses are located next to Iraqi border and only 30 km away from the Tawke Field in northern Iraq. Upper Cretaceous & Jurassic reefs as well as Miocene thrust plays make the licenses quite attractive. Seismic coverage is moderate, and leads & prospects are available. NE Ogunduk and Bostanci prospects nearby the Iraqi border, and 5000m deep reef prospect make the licenses highly promising in terms of oil reserves (P50), which are estimated in the range of 150-250 mmbo.

W.Adiyaman & Bozova Licenses 4 licenses located to the west of the city of Adiyaman are also promising in terms of discovering oil in Upper Cratecous limestones. Two prospects are mapped on the western trend of Suvarli wells where oil was tested, and reserves (P50) are estimated at 30-50 mmbo.

Calgan License The license has long been neglected for exploration since almost 70% of the surface area is covered by Ataturk Dam waters. However, at least 2 prospects are identified targeting the Mardin carbonates at 2500 m, and they can be easily reached by the land. The potential lies at the range of 8-15 mmbo.

Karakilise Licenses Three wells have already been drilled in Karakilise area just north of the city of Diyarbakir, and 50,000 bbl oil was produced in Karakilise-1 well. Here, the Mardin carbonates are proved to contain oil, as shown by recently drilled Hakan Yilmaz-1 well; but, low porosity & permeability values hamper the chance of production. New prospects are identified on the crest of thrust anticlines where better permeabilities are expected. The reserves (P50) are estimated to be 5-15 mmbo. In the southern part, currently drilled Kutluk-1 well in license 2674 will play an important role to open up a new Ordovician exploration to the west of Arpatepe Oil Field.

Viransehir Licenses Total of 6 licenses, located in SE Turkey, are considered important for its Paleozoic potential. After the discovery of light oil (41 API) in Ordovician sandstones in Arpatepe License by GYP in April 2008, Viransehir licenses pose a potential for having similar structures. There are no wells drilled in these licenses, and seismic coverage is very poor. At least 200 km of new 2D data are required before drilling a well.

Thrace Licenses 3 licenses to the west of Thrace Basin next to Turkey - Greece border are currently being explored by GYP. Miocene sands are being looked for their gas potential. GYP drilled the first exploration well, Copkoy-1, in October 2008 and tested gas in Oligo-Miocene sandstones. Second well, Copkoy-2, has just been drilled and abandoned as gas show dry well. Two wells have shown the presence of gas in the region and more detailed geologic and seismic studies will be undertaken to exactly locate the gas accumulation areas. Thrace is a very well developed industrial area, and market is ready for natural gas.

Producing Fields

Kahta Heavy Oil Field Kahta heavy oil field (11.2 API) is under production since 1958 and already 5 mmbo oil was recovered up to now. Current production is around 30bbl/d. It is believed that nearly 100 km of new 2D seismic data would reveal sweet spots that missed by the present wells, and also enhanced recovery programs help increase the ultimate recoverable reserves up to 35 of original oil reserves of 50 mmbo. GYP is ready to discuss the partnership possibilities with parties who can either provide financial support or technical expertise to reach this goal.
